 Star Spangled Banner Chapter Applicaton

New Memberships

We are the oldest continuously operating MOAA chapter in Maryland. Founded in 1964, we provide camaraderie with purpose, strongly supporting MOAA's "One Powerful Voice" advocacy with Congress. We are active with the Maryland Council of Chapters in meeting with our legislators, educating them about concerns of veterans and retirees. We pursue tax-free military retirement pay and many other veteran issues.

We conduct a variety of meetings or field trips at interesting locations with outstanding guest speakers. We meet at dinners, luncheons, and historic sites six times a year. Spouses and guests are always welcome.

We maintain a strong connection with three major university Army ROTC Programs which include a total of twelve colleges and universities. We promote membership in MOAA for newly commissioned officers and present them the Army Office Guide upon commissioning. For high school level Junior ROTC units, we provide encouragement through awards for leadership.

We offer major support to the paws4vets organization (of the paws4people Foundation) with an annual paws4vets Fundraiser, the MOAA Scholarship Program and the MOAA Family Initiative.

Our core values have remained essentially the same for over 50 years. Military people interested in and working to take care of military people.

MOAA is the Military Officers Association of America, a nonprofit, apolitical military association that lobbies Congress and fights for the earned pay and benefits of all service personnel. The Department of Defense is often forced to limit and even eliminate benefits for reasons ranging from sequestration to force reduction. Countering this problem is MOAA, with about 400,000 members.  MOAA is the most respected and influential veterans service organization that takes on this challenge. MOAA lobbies Congress with facts to protect earned benefits! MOAA is responsible for “wins” such as Tricare For Life, pay equality, the post 9-11 GI Bill, the repeal of COLA-1%, and numerous major medical benefits for all service personnel.

Regular membership is available to men and women who are serving/have served on active duty or in one of the National Guard or reserve components as a commissioned or warrant officer of the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or Public Health Service. Surviving Spouse membership is open to spouses of Regular members, and widows/widowers of deceased individuals who, if living, would be eligible for Regular membership.
