NDAA Explained

Legislatures have been very busy on both the national and local level in the past year!

National

Despite the many distractions on Capitol Hill, the National Defense Authorization Act has passed both houses.  The “NDAA Explained” article from National MOAA to the right presents the many positive changes that are coming, and it is recommended reading.  Additional information on the Widow’s Tax is explained in tab at the bottom of this page.

To become familiar with national priorities and legislation, National MOAA has a wonderful reference located at http://capwiz.com/moaa/home/.  Here you can find information how to take action, how to contact representatives, and what pending legislation needs our attention.

Additional information on how to become involved can be found under the “What you can Do” tab at the bottom of this page.

Maryland

The 2021 Maryland Legislative Session has begun! Close attention should be paid to certain bills.

If you check the “Updates” and "State Tax Exemptions" tabs below, you will find a list of all bills passed by both Houses that affect the active and retired military and military veterans.  Tax related bills are on the "State Tax Exemptions" tab, while other bills are on the "Updates" tab.

New bills have been proposed again this session that would increase - or eliminate - the limit on taxable retirement income, and legislation has been introduced to extend the property tax exemption from 100% disabled to 80% disabled individuals and survivors.

All proposed legislation before the 2021 Assembly is listed on the new "Bills Proposed" tab.

Take Action Now!

Check the “State Tax Exemptions” tab below for instructions to reach out to your representatives as well as a sample email.
