Speak with one voice!

 INTRODUCING THE MARYLAND MILITARY COALITION (MMC)

Veterans and military members can accomplish more in the Maryland General Assembly when the military community comes together as one powerful voice. That’s the reason for establishment of the Maryland Military Coalition (MMC), now updating to reintroduce goals that did not survive the 2022 legislative time frame, but are updated for the 2023 session.

MMC will work hard to project a clear, united message to Maryland lawmakers. With about 460,000 military-connected people in the State, the need to “speak with one voice” is very clear.

Also see MMC's legislative agenda for 2023.  It features items of interest to actively serving members, retirees, and surviving spouses and family members, as well as health care in general. resent testimony in favor of a certain bill during the time of COVID.

The Prioritized 2023 Goals Are:

  • Uniformed Services Retirement Programs
    • Eliminate State Tax on Uniformed Services Retired Pay
  • Mental Health & Suicide Prevention
    • Improve behavioral health crisis response
    • Expand the rural mental health service network
  • Veterans & Their Families
    • Participate in the Commission for the new Women Veterans Memorial
    • Expand Property Tax Credit for Severely Disabled
    • Create an income tax credit for housing
    • Establish free burial in state veterans’ cemeteries for spouses and dependents
    • Establishes an income tax checkoff box to benefit the Maryland Veterans Trust Fund
  • Currently Serving
    • Health Occupations – Temporary Licensure, Certification & Registration for Service Members, Veterans & Active Duty Spouses
  • Veteran Entrepreneurship
    • Create a Task Force to study the veteran-owned small business enterprise program
    • Increase preference for vet/spouse oriented small business in state contracting
