Jobs And Transition

The Maryland Council of MOAA Chapters maintains a regularly updated posting of job listings and a Newsletter https://bit.ly/MdMOAATransitionList you can join of interest to veterans transitioning.

The state of Maryland is committed to helping veterans leverage their military experience, training, and qualifications in pursuing civilian careers.

Job search assistance is available through the Maryland Workforce Exchange Virtual One Stop (MWE-VOS), the largest source of job openings in Maryland. The MWE-VOS is a free, Internet-based, state-of-art tool that provides job-seekers with information about jobs, training, and workforce support throughout Maryland.

Maryland State Careers for Veterans recommends state positions for which you may qualify based on your military service.

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation provides the Military to Federal Jobs Crosswalk, which matches federal jobs to your military occupation and searches for vacancies.

The VA Maryland Health Care System offers a portal to jobs within the largest, most technologically advanced integrated health care system in the nation.

Maryland is committed to providing comprehensive employment services to veterans at our American Job Centers. Veterans and eligible spouses married to a veteran with (or whose death was caused by) a military service-connected disability are given a Priority of Service (POS). POS means that once identified at the point of entry, veterans as well as their eligible spouses will be served first at the centers.

You may take full advantage of POS if you have served at least one day in active military service with an honorable discharge. Each center has an onsite veterans representative dedicated to helping you navigate the employment, training, and job placement processes. Each center is ready to provide veterans and eligible spouses with career counseling, job search assistance, job referral and matching, resume help, workshops, and referrals to additional support services.

Maryland offers veterans a variety of other programs to serve those who have served.

Maryland’s Commitment to Veterans is a Department of Health and Mental Hygiene program devoted to total wellness for veterans and their families. Regional resource coordinators provide assistance to veterans and their families to support a healthy transition to civilian life.

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Veterans and Military Family Mortgage Program provides military veterans and active duty military with a special interest rate discount of 0.25% for a 30-year, fixed rate mortgage, and Maryland Home Credit, providing annual federal tax savings, free of all DHCD fees,

The Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs was created by the State Legislature in 1999 as an executive agency with the mission of assisting veterans, active duty service members, their families and dependents, in securing benefits earned through military service.
