Our Chapter supports ROTC and JROTC programs in various ways. We present MOAA medals and certificates to cadets who demonstrate exceptional potential for military leadership at four Army ROTC university programs and many JROTC high school programs of all services. Chapter members who volunteer with these programs agree that It is a fulfilling and rewarding experience to be among these young people and experience their vigorous military training and amazing success!
The ROTC universities are Johns Hopkins, Loyola, McDaniel, and Morgan State. The Hopkins program includes the University of Maryland Baltimore County, the University of Baltimore, Stevenson University, Maryland Institute College of Art, and the JHU School of Nursing. McDaniel University includes Mount Saint Mary's University and Hood College. Loyola's program includes Towson University and Notre Dame of Maryland. Morgan State has a partnership with Coppin State University.
The four Army ROTC programs commission about 60 new 2nd Lt's each year. The chapter provides a gift of the Army Officer Guide to each new officer as part of the commissioning ceremony where he or she is formally sworn in to support the Constitution. It is quite a solemn and moving affair with families and guests present and distinguished speakers! We also give them a free, one year online membership in MOAA. This motivates them as young officers to become lifelong MOAA members.
The chapter works with the Navy JROTC at Woodlawn and Randallstown High Schools, the Marine Corps JROTC at Milford Mill Academy and Chesapeake High School, and the Air Force JROTC at Kenwood. The Milford Mill Color Guard has performed with outstanding precision at our last two annual banquets. Participation in the awards ceremonies is encouraged for Chapter members when requested. You will be impressed with what these programs and cadets accomplish!
